My Secret Love Affair with 6 A.M. Coffee ☕

I used to hate mornings. The grogginess, the puffy eyes, and worst of all…leaving the comfort of my nice, warm bed. I love sleep—let’s be real, who doesn’t?

These days, I set my alarm for 6 a.m. … but if I’m being honest, I rarely need it. My sweet little Cyrus is usually my early-morning alarm clock. Around 6 a.m., I hear his soft baby noises breaking the silence. I get up, feed him, and nine times out of ten he drifts right back to sleep.

And that’s when my favorite part of the day begins—my blissful hour of coffee. The house is still. The only sounds are the coffee maker gurgling and Cyrus’s soft baby breaths as he snoozes. No one else needs me yet. No one’s asking for snacks, help with homework, or to find a missing sock. It’s just me, my coffee, and a few stolen moments of peace before the storm.

When the Chaos Wakes Up

By 7:30, the quiet is over. It’s time to wake the girls and start the morning rush on school days.

Breakfast needs to be made. Lunches packed. Outfits chosen (and usually protested). Teeth brushed (after reminding them five times). Hair done (sometimes resembling a bird’s nest that needs major detangling).

Meanwhile, baby Cyrus just lounges in his chair like a little king, watching his sisters’ morning antics with wide-eyed amusement. I swear sometimes he’s thinking, “Who are these crazy people and why are they so loud before the sun’s even high?”

Herding Kids, Not Cows

Most mornings feel like I’m herding stubborn cows through the head gate. I even joke that a cattle prod might speed things along…but I’m pretty sure child services would have something to say about that.

There are rare days when things go smoothly—when everyone gets dressed without a battle, eats breakfast without drama, and even remembers to brush their teeth without me sounding like a broken record. But let’s be honest…those mornings are about as rare as a quiet harvest season.

The Sweet Spot Between Chaos and Calm

The best part about being up at 6 a.m. is that I’ve already had a little me-time before the chaos hits. I’m caffeinated, semi-prepared, and slightly less frazzled as the morning unfolds.

Once the girls head off to school, the house finally exhales. The noise fades, and I can breathe again. That’s when I move on to the rest of my day—mom duties, farm-wife duties, and all the little things that keep this hot mess of a household running.

But that peaceful early morning coffee? That’s mine. Every day. And I’ll savor it like the treasure it is…because it’s the calm before the storm.

Are you a 6 a.m. coffee-before-the-chaos kind of parent…or do you hit snooze until the kids become your alarm clock and all hell breaks loose? Let me know in the comments!
